Rentarou is a high school student with short dark brown hair, blue comet-colored eyes in the manga, reddish-brown eyes in the anime, and his signature perfectly taut well-kept thick eyebrows.[2]
He is most commonly seen wearing his high school uniform.
Personality[]
Rentarou is a kind, thoughtful, serious, and sociable boy who is easy to get close to. He knows how to study well and is relatively athletic.[3] Rentarou genuinely loves all his girlfriends more than anything else, and is very easily impressed by their actions, especially when they do things that he finds cute. However, Rentarou is also very protective of his girlfriends and often needs to be calmed down should someone insult or harass any of them, hinting at a somewhat short temper. There have been times where he almost got into fistfights with people when they insulted or slighted his girfriends, or he feels that his girlfriends are in danger.
Not only that but on multiple occasions he has displayed loyalty and isn't dirty-minded nor willing to do anything that his girlfriends don't want.
He dislikes cross-dressing but does it for the sake of his girlfriends.

With the blessings of Love God, Rentarou has displayed a number of in order to satisfy every last one of his girlfriends. When his eyes intersect with Soulmate's, an electric "zing" shock effect will be caused.

Rentarou literally can do anything for love. Including but not limited to breaking the fourth wall, moving quickly, changing body shape, cloning himself, catching meteorites, completing city-wide construction that would have taken all day and night in just one hour at most, snapping his neck to rotate it a full 180 degrees, defying gods... It is best to stop here since there is no end to the writing.
History[]
From 8 months old to his junior high graduation, Rentarou has experienced 100 love proposal rejections in a row. After his 100th rejection, Rentarou goes to a matchmaking shrine and prays to the shrine's god for a happy high school life by letting him get a girlfriend. To Rentarou's surprise, the god appears before to him as a donation thief before revealing that he is in fact a god. The God of Love tells Rentarou that he is to meet his "soulmate" in high school and that they will fall in love at first sight.
However, due to the god's error (being distracted while watching "Castle in the Sky") Rentarou has 100 soulmates instead of just one. On his first day of high school, Rentarou accidentally bumps into two girls in the hallway on his way to class. Feeling a sudden shock Rentarou realizes they're his soulmates and then offers to help them up. After being tricked into taking them to the nurse's office he learns their names Hanazono Hakari and Inda Karane, all three happen to be in the same class.
The girls hear of a rumor that if you confess while giving someone a pink four-leaf clover it will definitely succeed. Causing the two of them to run to the schools garden in search of one leaving Rentarou to wonder about their legs. After helping an elderly teacher find his lost contact lenses, he sees the two girls are still searching for a clover in the courtyard. Moved by their dedication for him, Rentarou decides to buy them a drink as repayment. He first meets with Karane who embarrassed by his kind gesture makes a fool of herself, though touched due to her tsundere nature she is barely able to say thank you. As Karane runs away, Hakari appears though she has similar difficulties taking the drink due to trying to trick Rentarou into an indirect kiss, resulting in her spilling the drink. Rentarou goes to help her, only for Hakari to confess which is overheard by Karane, which causes her to confess.
Rentarou asks them to wait till tomorrow morning for a response. Extremely happy for his spring to come after 100 rejections, to his horror he realizes that he could never choose one over the other. He then goes to consult the God of Love where he is told the truth "that for those who have met their soulmate... If they cannot fall in love with each other and be happy, They'll die from various unfortunate events afterwards." If he only dates one the other will die so Rentarou comes up with a plan to save the girls, he'll date them both in secret.
The following day Rentarou ultimately decided to confess to both of them, after reflecting on his plan he knew that lying to them would save their lives, but he would never be able to forgive himself for treating their love so callously. He decided thenceforth that he would do everything to make them happy even though he was trying to two-time them. To prove this he give both girls a four leaf clover when confessing to them as he thought it would make them happy. Due to his efforts both girls decide to date Rentarou and he promises that he will make them happy.[3]

While Rentarou had his reservations against dating his cousin, despite knowing the fate she would have if he did not accept her, he relented after witnessing her honest, pure confession. Her father (and only parent) Hiro, Rentarou's uncle, approves of her relationship with him after a young Rentarou once pushed him away from a speeding truck, believing Rentarou to be the best boy in the world as a result. | |

After Rentarou protected Yamame from a fire comically created by the school's vice principal, she confessed her feelings to Rentarou as it was the first time someone had ever protected her. | |
