Summary[]
While walking down the street, someone bumps into Rentarou from behind. He turns around to see if the person is okay, and when he sees it is a girl, the both of them feel that spark that signifies that this girl is one of Rentarou's soulmates. Rentarou snaps out of the shock and apologizes to the girl, but the girl instead apologizes to Rentarou for not watching where she was going as she was distracted by two squirrels fighting each other. When the girl stands up, she winces in pain as she hurt her leg when she fell, but she insists she can manage on her own. Rentarou offers to carry the girl's bag for her, and she graciously accepts, having been touched by Rentarou's kindness and beginning to fall for him.
As the two walk, they introduce themselves to each other, with the girl's name being Rin Baio, a second year at Ohananomitsu Middle School. Rin also reveals that in her bag is a violin, and she was heading to her violin lesson when she bumped into Rentarou. He asks if she enjoys it and Rin admits she does, as her parents are both violinists, and as such she has been practicing for as long as she can remember. Rentarou thinks it is great she is so young to be playing the violin, but Rin admits it can be difficult at times but at the end of the day she loves the sound it makes and desires to share it with others, which is her motivation.
A car drives up and knocks a rock into the air, which Rentarou blocks with his hand to keep it from hitting Rin's bag. Quickly, Rin gets out some water and a band-aid to put on it, impressing Rentarou by her gentleness. However, as she starts putting the band-aid on, Rentarou sees her making an interesting face, and he asks if the sight of blood disturbs her, but she says she is fine, as it turns out Rin loves both the violin and violence, and the sight of the blood was exciting her. Six years ago, Rin turned on the TV at home to watch the Friday Road show, but instead of a Ghibli film that she wanted, she instead saw a brief scene of Resident Evil before her father turned the TV off. That scene, however, left a deep impression on Rin, and began her extreme interest in violence.
In the present, Rentarou thanks Rin for the first aid as she gets a message from her teacher saying her lesson has been pushed back by an hour. Rentarou offers to take Rin somewhere the pass the time, and she asks if they can go to an arcade called "Brain Blast", citing she was too nervous to enter by herself (and her parents labeled it as off limits). At the arcade, Rin sees an angry patron slamming a machine, which excites her, but Rentarou who was unaware of her interest, said they won't see much of people like them. The two see a game where they hit crocodiles like a whack-a-mole, and Rin enjoys it to her heart's content, which Rentarou does take notice. Rin next plays a punching machine game where she punches a bag to damage a video game person, the sight of his increasing injuries increases Rin's own enjoyment.
After that, Rin spots a Resident Evil shooting game and Rentarou decides they should try it out next, advising she close her eyes if it gets to scary. Once the game begins, Rin remembers it was this game that ignited her passion for violence, and she ends up losing herself in her pleasure. Rin quickly recovers when she remembers Rentarou is next to her, and she apologizes in embarrassment for showing him what she considers a perverse interest. Rentarou, however, tells Rin not to be ashamed of her interest no matter how different it may be, and as long as she isn't causing anyone problems, she should enjoy herself wholeheartedly. Rin becomes touched by Rentarou accepting her quirks, and she tearfully asks if he will go out with her. Rentarou graciously accepts, as he had fallen in love with her too, and the two share a hug amongst the cries and screams of the game.
