Farewell to Naddian, Long Live Naddian (さらばナディー
Summary[]
Everyone gathers at the rooftop to hang out and talk, but for some reason, Naddy speaks normal Japanese instead of her usual attempt at English. Naddy claims she feels out of sorts when the seasons change, only for Kishika to point out that Spring doesn't end in this manga. Rentarou and Chiyo ask Naddy what is bothering her, and she ultimately confesses that another teacher named Fumi Utsushiro told her that if she continues to speak incorrectly, Naddy will become a bad influence on the students, so Fumi told her to stop speaking the way she has been.
Almost immediately, Rentarou confronts Fumi and tells her that no matter how Naddy speaks, he can understand her perfectly, and to him, language isn't about accuracy but expression; a person's language can express a person's identity, and Naddy's method of speaking encompasses her freedom from her earlier life filled with constraints. As such, he doesn't feel it is right for her to restrict Naddy's way of expressing her unique personality. Though Fumi understands Rentarou's point, she points out that just because he can understand her doesn't mean others will be able to, especially outside the school boundaries. Just as she says, the rest of the family comes to her defense, saying they understand Naddy perfectly.
Though taken aback, Fumi decides to test everyone's understanding of Naddy's speech. She has Naddy read a passage in her "personal brand" of English, and if no one can accurately understand what she means, they will have to withdraw their complaint. Naddy reads a passage and though Rentarou aces it, the other girls struggle, which he notices. To help them, Rentarou feigns struggling to understand Naddy's words while reminding everyone that they have spoken with Naddy daily and that she has been teaching them her language all that time. This inspires everyone to recall their memories of her describing them uniquely, allowing everyone to translate the passage correctly. The only one left struggling, however, is Yaku due to her age, and though Rentarou wants to help her, he sees her determination and remembers what he said earlier about how language is about expression, and from Yaku's expression, he sees how dedicated she is to helping Naddy, and so he decides to put his trust in her like the others.
The test ends, and Fumi collects everyone's papers, and to her shock, everyone manages to translate Naddy's words flawlessly. Fumi then gets to Yaku's paper hoping she was the only one who failed, but when Fumi reads it, she is so shocked she shows the paper to Naddy, who is moved to tears by what she read. Ultimately, Fumi accepts defeat and withdraws her warning, but she does warn the family the minute she gets complaints about Naddy, she will return (though no one else really has one because they all like her so much). After Fumi leaves, everyone celebrates, but Hakari asks Yaku how she could decipher Naddy's speech since they were all positive she didn't truly understand anything. Naddy speaks up and reveals that Yaku wrote about how much everyone means to each other as friends and how Fumi should let this go. Though everyone is touched, when Naddy shows Yaku's paper, they see how cramped Yaku's calligraphy is and that, in reality, Fumi didn't want to admit she couldn't read her sheet, and the only reason Naddy understood it was because of her upbringing.
Regardless, Naddy sincerely thanks everyone for helping her, especially Rentarou, but they all remind Naddy she should speak how she wants to, and she happily does. Rentarou, however, simply says he would be a bad boyfriend if he couldn't understand her, and even if he couldn't understand her words, Rentarou understands her feelings, which touches Naddy to the point the two have a romantic kiss.
The last few panels show what it looks like when Naddy's words are translated as directly as possible and why it isn't done.
