Give a Taste to Me Yakisoba (あていの
Summary[]
The first years of Ohananomitsu Middle School are participating in a cooking lab for yakisoba as Matsuri attempts to show off to her classmates; but she's taken aback by everyone being more interested and impress in her classmate Chiyo's yakisoba, which everyone proclaims the best in the class. Matsuri is offended by everyone claiming Chiyo's is better without proof despite how she tends to work yakisoba more often than her; but Chiyo admits she works her family kitchen every day and Matsuri just can't declare hers is better without proving it herself. The two first-years decide to compete to determine whose yakisoba is better, setting up festival-like stalls in the lab; Matsuri's yakisoba is stated to be enhanced by the sauce like it's from a festival, while Chiyo's is better by the quality and usage of the ingredients. Eventually both girls tie without the actual chefs having voted; Matsuri tries Chiyo's but is upset about how good her classmate's meal is, but Chiyo declares Matsuri's as better, which the blonde claims as a "pity vote" as she curses her and runs away.
A short while later, Rentarou is introducing Matsuri to the family, but the festival girl is shocked to see Chiyo as part of the group while the others feel happy that Matsuri is another proper lady joining them before she starts cursing them out claiming she isn't proper and how her outfit is made from an English Happi Coat; Karane cries foul but Rentarou defends Matsuri stating it's all in the intention, just like how their manga is a romantic comedy that just feels like a gag manga before they make out; Kishika wonders if Matsuri's outfit even counts as a school uniform but Hahari gave the approval. Bringing up how her family is fashion designers and her half-English heritage, Matsuri is approached by Eira who is half-Brazilian and Naddy (who is 100% Japanese but thinks she's American) and they declare themselves the "Half 'n Happi Trio" (despite only one Happi Coat and Naddy being Naddy).
Asking about why she loves Happi Coats, Matsuri brings up her love of festivals as she starts bringing out various festive items, including yo-yo balloons, a Pentarou mask for Meme to hide her face, and various festival treats like candied fruit she keeps in her pockets. When Uto asks what her favorite element of a festival is, Matsuri brings up yakisoba and believes that with this her introduction, she has to make some with her family's secret recipe.
As the girls head down to the high school cooking lab, they commend Matsuri's abilities at a stove, but Matsuri feels "the weight of Rentarou's Family" as she prepares 27 servings all at once, realizing it's too much for her, making her arms hurt and worried she isn't going to finish the job. However, Chiyo soon joins in and states that with how much yakisoba she's making, it's too much for one person let alone middle schoolers. Chiyo states she wasn't giving pity about Matsuri's yakisoba earlier, but does state it's amazing due to her passion to share it with others that she brings out it's full flavor; Matsuri apologizes for being so hard on her class president; she states her grandfather's yakisoba tastes like festival noodles, but Chiyo's reminds her of her mother's cooking, more like the warm comfort of British food. With the two finally made up, Chiyo and Matsuri keep working until they finish all the yakisoba, which everyone commends and gives success to both girls.
Matsuri starts chowing down on her meal and eating with the others while getting sauce on her when Hahari presents Rentarou and makes him kiss his cousin to clean up the sauce on her mouth, which she claims is how they clean up in this family. Chiyo blushes surprising Matsuri with how she's usually straight laced but then goes with the flow, getting her first kiss which tastes like yakisoba.
