Mai and Momoha Become Maid Certified (Maybe) (
Summary[]
This is a little story about two girls who share a boyfriend: the ethics teacher who lives in a tent at school, and the clumsy maid who looks after her.
Mai is cleaning up the tent Momoha is living in as the drunk teacher thanks her and offers a kiss from her "big sister", but Mai states she isn't the "big sister" she wants kisses from. However, Mai is distracted as she's reading from a book, studying for her "maid certification" from the World Maid Association; it's customary that the maids of the Meido household pass this test upon graduating middle school; and if they do not, then Mai would have to return home and train for another year! Momoha worries about Mai leaving for another year from Rentarou's Family, but Mai makes it like all she cares about is leaving "her sister", but also about proving to her grandmother that she has progressed considering she will be a proctor for the maid exam. Momoha comforts Mai stating she'll do fine and decides to come with to cheer her on; Mai seems comforted already until she realizes she's not Momoha's maid and Momoha isn't her big sister!
That night at the Hanazono Estate, Mai fills out her application for the Maid Certification Exam; however she sees that a "bunny girl certification" exam is also being held the same day. Dreaming of Mei as a bunny girl, she accidentally circles the wrong certification exam before submission.
When the exam day arrives, Mai and Momoha are met by Mai's grandmother, whom the ethics teacher tries to compliment on how much Mai has helped them. As the announcements for those taking the exam goes out, Mai heads to partake in her exam, her grandmother realizing she has changed; Mai used to be merely clumsy and she was worried that she would be nothing but an undue issue for their mistress, but suddenly thinks her granddaughter no longer needs any training in her practice.
But as Mai goes to get her outfit for the exam, she suddenly realizes her mistake as she's ultimately dressed as a bunny girl, not a maid! She's unbelieving at first until she sees it for herself and is confused; and it's made worse when she returns to the exam stage and is confronted by her grandmother again, who is likewlse confused and immediately tells Mai she will be returning to the Meido Household to be retrained. Yet as Mai prepares to accept the punishment, Momoha steps in stating that bunny girls have a history working as high-class waitresses for those well off, which is exactly the same as being a maid; thus she reasons if Mai can pass the test, she should be postponed from retraining until she passes the maid certification next year. Staring at the two of them, Mai's grandmother asks her if she will not bring any shame to the Meido household, which Mai agrees to. By happenstance, an extra bunny girl outfit is left behind and, with her paying the fee for the exam, Momoha suddenly joins Mai in taking the test alongside her; thinking that with all the gambling films she's seen, she should know the basics of being a bunny girl while supporting Mai on the test.
The first test of the Bunny Girl Certification is the ability to show charm as a waitress; however, Mai has a hard time in doing so. Momoha soon joins her helping her show herself off as a duo before tripping as she does. Mai doesn't do very well on the other tests either including serving drinks or dealing with cards or roulette balls before there's a break before the finale, Mai relenting she's not going to pass; worried that she's not good enough to pass either the maid or bunny girl exams! Momoha worries knowing that Mai can be much more competent than what she's showing before getting an idea, leaving the exam for a moment and not returning by the time the final exam starts.
However Momoha soon returns completely drunk, shocking Mai into believing she's going to fail once and for all as the final test is announced: waiting on a dining area! The ethics teacher tries to act but her inebriated state makes her too clumsy and she keeps stumbling with the drinks! Mai cleans up after her and decides to take the tray instead as Momoha keeps stumbling around, the maid actually showing her ability to pick up after another and a sternness in waiting, stating that usually you need to only cover for yourself when working as a bunny girl waitress, but Mai is covering for another which is a fact of life for their job with her judgement as is caring for a drunk, which is important in a barroom scenario.
As the results of the Bunny Girl Certification are announced, Mai is still helping Momoha when she sees her number on the board, having passed the exam; Momoha states she knew she could considering how often she cared for the teacher when she's drunk. Mai realized Momoha got herself drunk on purpose to help with the test as her grandmother realizes she made a good friend as she leaves. The drunk Momoha calls Mai a nice kid, a hard worker and a cutie before calling Mai "Rentarou" and kissing her, shocking Mai with the ethics teacher's disrespectful behavior!
