Opening! The Food Fight Festival! ( (かい) (まく) !フードファイトフェスティバル Kaimaku! Fūdo Faito Fesutibaru) is the twenty-fifth chapter of the 100 Kanojo manga.

Summary[]

Rentarou introduces Kurumi to the rest of his girlfriends. Karane asks what type of girlfriend he got himself this time and he introduces her as a “hungry type”. Kurumi flatly states that she has no intention of getting along with anyone but Rentarou, which receives mixed reactions from the girls. Nano states that Kurumi does have a point and that getting involved with each other without good reason to is inefficient. This sparks a negative reaction from the girlfriends as they shortly believe she doesn’t really like them, but she clears up the misunderstanding by saying that she does like them and isn’t hanging out with them because she feels she has an obligation to. Kurumi questions how the others are acting, prompting Rentarou to start thinking of ways to bridge the awkward gap between them. He suggests that the group participate in a food fight festival the following Sunday, which they all agree to. Kurumi says that she can win the tournament on her own and will participate separately but Hahari points out that middle schoolers or younger have to be accompanied by a guardian. She asks Hahari if she can pretend to be her mother, but quickly agrees to join the team after Hahari says she’ll only do it if Kurumi calls her mommy.

The day of the tournament arrives, and the host explains the rules. The festival has a team format with a total of five rounds. In each round, each team is free to send as many or as few players up to eat as they want. Teams will get points based on how high they rank in each round and the team with the most points at the end wins.

Before the main round, a preliminary round will be held which consists of rice with some side dishes that don’t count towards the total. Rentarou begins to strategize who to send up when Kurumi states that she’ll participate in every single round, a statement that gets some aggression from Karane. Rentarou and Kurumi end up participating in the preliminaries and the round begin. Rentarou starts eating his rice given to him by Hakari, but quickly stops after he notices that Kurumi is distracted by a side dish of tonkatsu and grilled meat. He concocts a plan and runs up to get the side dishes that Kurumi wants, placing them before her. She questions what he’s doing but starts to eat the side dishes anyway way. Karane asks Rentarou what the idea is and Rentarou points her to Kurumi’s face. A look of euphoria from her attracts the other contestants to start eating the side dishes as well. Rentarou says his plan was to use Kurumi’s monstrous digestion to their advantage as she can digest the rice and side dishes really quickly, something the other contestants cannot do. Rentarou starts to devour the rice given to him from his girlfriends, causing some concern from the group. Rentarou insists that he’s fine and says that he can continue eating only rice because the rice filled by each of his girlfriend’s tastes different.

With the preliminary round nearly over, the other contestants look over at the monsters, Rentarou and Kurumi, still devouring rice. When the round ends, the host exclaims that only three teams made it past the preliminary round. Rentarou’s family made it to third place and the Gorira alliance is in second. In first place is a contestant known as Takeko Superdeluxe, who Nano says is the current world champion and top prize money winner of competitive eating.
