A Day with Rentarou (
Summary[]
After preparing himself for another day, Rentarou leaves his home and meets up with the family on their way to school. On his way there, he sees a hair spring up on Miss Naddy he adjusts; Naddy admits that she's been ruining her cuticles with bleach to make herself appear blonde, but Rentarou states seeing her "American Hair" is enough motivation to help calm it down. Mimimi notices that Rentarou's own hair never seems to be messed up similarly, but he states that it's so he can appear alongside a natural beauty like her, which Mimimi takes compliment on.
At a crosswalk, Rentarou notices Yaku not moving despite having the "walk" sign and her granddaughter trying to get her to cross; Kusuri states that it's because her grandmother never trusted "iron horses" and her knees buckle whenever she sees one. With no choice, Rentarou carries Yaku on his back like a wounded soldier to get her across the street. In the middle of the crosswalk, Yamame freezes seeing fire from a lit cigarette in a car; without warning, Rentarou pulls out a gun but even as Yamame claims "smokers are living things too", he states it's a squirt gun and that he'll use it to put any fires out if any happen while he's around. After finishing crossing Yaku over, Rentarou offers Kishika the same piggyback ride, which she denies at first due to her chivalry, but when he states "there's nothing bizarre with doing it with her boyfriend", she relents and takes it while melting in the process, Karane and Kurumi noting it as bizarre. After crossing with Kishika, a gust of wind blows by as Rentarou protects Chiyo and Hakari's skirts and Meme's lower bangs, Meme surprised he'd remember.
At school, Hakari notes she placed some glamour shots of herself in Rentarou's locker, but is surprised to see a reversal: a thank-you from Rentarou for Hakari's pictures and some glamour pictures of his own, making her excited in the process. Later in the chairwoman's office, Hahari warns Hakari about her glamour shots making her grades dip but her daughter states she's motivated with the sudden reversal making the chairwoman jealous. Mei notices there is a similar envelope in Hahari's shoe locker, revealing it as Rentarou dressed as a baby and preschooler, likewise exciting her.
Later in the library, Karane, Nano and Rentarou are complimenting Shizuka for her latest book recommendation which the small girl takes pride in. Both Karane and Nano appear to not know if they have any recommendations to Shizuka with how much of a reader Shizuka is, but Rentarou instead presents her a book of "The Fairy Princess and the Flower Prince", which she appears excited over as Karane and Nano state they need to read it later. Karane asks what Nano is there for as the smart girl states she wanted new problem sets but she had completed all those in the library, leading to Rentarou to present her a handmade set he made which she thanks him for as she and Shizuka leave. Rentarou asks if Karane was looking for a book but when she denies it, he reveals he made a book of all the lovable traits she has while stating he only has the first volume and isn't done the second, which she takes in anger but hugs in adoration in private.
On the roof, the girls are talking about "Princess Mononoke"; when Hakari mentions the "mouth-to-mouth feeding scene", Kurumi gets hungry but Rentarou gives her beef jerky, Kurumi wondering if he knew this would happen when they talked of this movie while ignoring similar "mouth expectations" that Hahari is giving her. Rentarou tells Mei to take a break which she sees as an order before he pats her on the head as she lays in his lap like a dog stating this is "a maid's order". Momiji notices while rubbing Yaku's shoulders as Kusuri gets upset when her grandmother compliments the masseuse' work. Momiji notices that Mei is "never not working" and decides to help Rentarou, but Rentarou massages her shoulders instead stating she's "never not healing" and needs a break herself, embarassing her.
After school, Rentarou is helping Chiyo with her shopping. An old woman notices the two together thanking her for helping her "big brother" despite the circumstances, but Rentarou corrects her stating they're a couple, making Chiyo blush.
Afterwards, Rentarou returns to the chemistry lab at school where Kusuri's latest "give-you-Byakugan eyes" drug has instead become "give-you-Nobita eyes"; Rentarou shoves some Negation Drug into Kusuri in his blindness, surprising that he did it right as she changes into her 18-year-old form and thanks him for saving her.
By dark, Rentarou is working with Iku on her baseball practice to exhaustion. The duo head back as Iku tells Rentarou he doesn't have to walk her home, but he states he does because she's a girl, making her blush as she thanks him.
After leaving Iku, Rentarou passes the Matchmaking Shrine where the Love God approaches by poking his head through a wall, making him think he's an evil spirit even after all this time! After some initial shock, the Love God admits it's been a while (85 chapters) since the two met before mentioning he's met 17 girlfriends and was able to make them happy, which Rentarou states they make him happy as well. The God admits that he thought Rentarou was a lunatic with his declaration to complete his duties for the 100 Soulmates but that his aim is true up to now. He wonders why Rentarou doesn't tell the girls "if they can't be with their love, they'll die" circumstance; but Rentarou admits he doesn't want the girls to be with him due to their safety but because it makes them happy; and states that if you're not wholehearted in a relationship even before or after dating, it's no different from potential misery or death.
The Love God admits he feels sorry for the fate he placed on all these girls robbing them of their futures and thanks Rentarou for being the one he made the error with. Rentarou wonders if he's serious, but the Love God states he is truly sorry for the burden and grateful for all that has happened. Thinking over his past 100 rejections and the happiness of the 17 girlfriends he has up to this point, he thanks the Love God for giving him happiness...even if the Love God thinks he's hitting on him which makes Rentarou angry again.
