Rentarou's Family vs. The Quad Town Public Sports Festival ( (れん) () (ろう) ファミリーVS (バーサス) (よん) (ちょう) (たい) (こう) () (みん) (うん) (どう) (かい) Rentarō Famirī Bāsasu Yon-chō Taikō Shimin Undō-kai?) is the ninety-seventh chapter of the 100 Kanojo manga.

Summary[]

The kind of manga where a boyfriend and his 19 girlfriends go to a sports festival. Is that weird? No, it's pretty normal, really.

A sports festival is being held bringing together the town of Sukisugi with three neighboring towns; with the winner of the festival getting a special travel voucher. All of Rentarou's Family arrive to assist with the festival; but also joining them is Mr. Yakuzen who is off from work; as well as Uncle Hiro, who takes offense when Rentarou calls Kusuri's father "father-in-law" but not him in association with Chiyo. Mr. Yakuzen and Mr. Iin fight regarding which of their daughters is the cutest until Kusuri's father uses the Negation Drug to bring Hiro to his knees and apologize while still not pulling back his feelings, forcing their daughters to push back against them. However, the Sukisugi delegation is immediately approached by the mayor of Kiraisugi, who has yet to win the sports festival and hates Sukisugi, to the point he has hired professional athletes to compete for them and to give them taxpayer money if they win! As Rentarou and the two fathers yell at the Kiraisugi mayor for his crooked move, it's revealed they will be male and female competitions beginning with the tug-o-war that will determine the points of the meet.

  • Tug-o-War: After revealing that there was a drug screening for this tournament (forcing Mr. Yakuzen to revert to his normal 8-year-old self), the males fail against the professionals instantly; with the females (including Hahari and Kusuri) also failing.
  • Foot Race: Rentarou loses to one of the professionals hired by Kiraisugi, but Mimimi hangs in there against her opponent in the female division. Remembering her narcissistic personality, the Kiraisugi participant tells Mimimi that her grit teeth and furlowed brow ruin her beauty; Mimimi changes it to be more beautiful but loses the race in the process, making Mimimi upset that she couldn't bare being unattractive in public leading to the loss.

As Kiraisugi pulls ahead from the other towns, Hakari realizes they can't win in a physical match but can still use their individual skills to take them down.

  • Ball Toss: The Ohananomitsu girls realize they can use elements to their advantage; and in this case use a combination where Shizuka collects all the balls due to being small, then is thrown by Yamame to the basket throwing all of them in at once before Hakari and Meme cushion her landing; defeating Kiraisugi even with them using a basketball player for the event! The Kiraisugi mayor cries foul, but the referee states there's nothing against throwing someone.
  • Costume Race: Although Ahko is chosen despite her problems physically, she takes advantage of her style abilities, even when she's given her costume as the final form of No-Face (from "Spirited Away") out of garbage bags. Even as others mess up their costumes and Ahko arrives last, her "gyaru No-Face" guise was stylish enough to win!
  • Scavenger Hunt: Uto goes for Sukisugi and her item is "a spear that can pierce any shield and a shield that can deflect any spear"; although wondering if this is the most ideal of items to search for, the chuuni minstrel ultimately arrives with a paper plate and plastic fork, stating through wit that "a poor craftsman blames his tools" and that by having a master of a spear or a master of a shield, they can use anything to fight or protect what they need to with their item of choice; through her words, Uto wins it for Sukisugi (even if some wonder if she's really as smart as she claims).
  • Bread-Eating Contest: Due to a mistake, an entire loaf of bread is given to Sukisugi despite the rule that it must fully be eaten to win; seeing this, Kurumi dives right for it and wins for the team instantly.
  • Spoon Race: The Kiraisugi participant states that they're technically cheating with the egg glued to the spoon and the need to make it appear like it's not, but Nano wins by stabilizing an actual egg without need for cheating and her own nature.
  • Blindfold Race: Again Kiraisugi is appearing to cheat using a fake blindfold, but Mei wins by just darting through as if she wasn't wearing an eyemask.
  • Obstacle Course: Yaku goes for Sukisugi reminded of her days fighting in the war; even when a ninja drops caltrops on the course, she flips through with ease winning the race.

With their success in the women's division, Sukisugi closes the gap with Kiraisugi (though the men's division still allows for Kiraisugi to appear more successful), giving everyone the confidence that they will win this meet.
