Hasuha Hasu (端 (は) 須 (す) 蓮 (はす) 葉 (は) , Hasu Hasuha^?) is Rentarou's 32nd girlfriend. She is a first-year student at Ohananomitsu High School, and a detective who relies on her acute sense of smell to solve mysteries.

Appearance

Hasuha has brown shoulder-length hair with white highlights at the tips. She does her hair up in two high side ponytails, allowing the hair to drape down the sides of her head resembling the ears of a bloodhound.

Hasuha's eyebrows are small and white, resembling those of a Shiba Inu, and can be seen through her fringe. Her eyes have a white flower motif inside the iris.

School Uniform

Hasuha's Ohananomitsu High School girl's uniform is highly customised, inspired by stereotypical detectives such as Sherlock Holmes.

Over the base uniform, she wears a two-button waistcoast, and an Inverness cape. Hasuha completes her look with a necktie, beret, and mid-calf socks. Keeping the dog-theme up, most of her apparel has a brown houndstooth pattern.

Hasuha also carries a magnifying glass in a waist pouch.

Personality

Hasuha is a high school first-year student who calls herself a great detective. She has olfactophilia, and her being a detective is largely an excuse for her to satisfy her smell fetish, which is not to say Hasuha doesn't enjoy solving mysteries and aiding others, being a kind and friendly girl to boot.

Deduction

A self-styled detective, Hasuha prides herself on solving cases and exposing the truth since elementary school. She's even gone on an all-night stakeout, to deduce who had been piling trash in front of Iku and Yamame's clubrooms.

High Sense of Smell

Hasuha mostly solves cases using her sense of smell, just like a police dog. Her sense of smell is sensitive enough to recognize different scents of people or animals, upon getting a sample of their scent (usually from an article of clothing).

As a side effect, Hasuha is extremely sensitive to smells and will go into sensory overload with prolonged exposure.

History

Hasuha appears behind Rentarou, Mentarou, and a nearby girl who lost her underwear as Hasuha calls herself a great detective, and when she locks eyes with Rentarou, they feel a shock, signifying Hasuha as one of Rentarou's soulmates. Hasuha gets snapped out of her thoughts by the girl as she asks the two boys for their names, commenting on how similar they sound (though Rentarou chalks it up to the author's wacky naming convention). Hasuha gets close to Mentarou and sniffs him, asking if he was just in the cafeteria recently before entering the library, which Mentarou confirms, impressing Rentarou. Hasuha sniffs the girl and after detecting sweat and diet protein from her, she deduces she is currently on a diet to lose weight, which the girl admits, but she has lost so much weight that her panties keep slipping off. Hasuha goes down the hallway the girl walked through and gets on the ground to smell the spot where her panties fell, and at this point, Rentarou realizes Hasuha is using nothing but smells, making her less of a detective and more like a police dog.

Hasuha starts sniffing Rentarou and detects a "feminine" scent coming off of Rentarou; thirty-one distinct smells, to be precise. The girl thinks Rentarou is a serial panty hunter, but Rentarou quickly denies this, saying the scent is coming from all thirty-one of his girlfriends, but that just makes them think he's definitely the type who snatches up panties off the ground. Hasuha refutes this, reasoning that he would ask his girlfriends for their panties if he so wanted to, but Rentarou yells he would rather look for random panties on the ground rather than do something deplorable to his girls, but this just makes him seem even more suspicious.

Hasuha gets even closer to Rentarou and soon becomes tipsy on his scent, as she possesses a smell fetish. Rentarou eventually snaps her out of it, and after she calms down, she declares that the culprit is indeed Mentarou, as she sniffs the scent of the girl's panties on him but nowhere on Rentarou. Mentarou freaks out over being exposed as the girl asks him to turn out his pockets, while Rentarou thanks Hasuha for finding the culprit, but she says that exposing the truth and rescuing the innocent is just a part of a detective's job. Mentarou then starts running for it and tries to push Hasuha out of the way, only for Rentarou to catch her. An Baba then chases after Mentarou for running in the hall and starts sloppily kissing him, and the narration reveals that whenever Mentarou thinks about panties from this point forward, this image would replay in his mind, and therefore makes him stop stealing girls' panties.

Rentarou asks Hasuha if she is okay, but once again, she becomes entrenched in his scent to the point that she won't exhale. She tells Rentarou she's madly in love with him regardless of how many other girlfriends he has, and he can fool around with her whenever he pleases. Rentarou, however, pushes her off himself and clarifies that he never fools around with love, and if they start dating, he'll make her the happiest girl in the world, much to her delight. To Rentarou's dismay, though, Hasuha then asks for him to stick his armpit out so she can smell it, and he says they need to get a grip on her wildest fantasies.

Etymology

• Hasu means "Edge" (端) (hashi/ha) and "Short" (須) (su).
• Hasuha means "Lotus" (蓮) (ren/hachisu/hasu) and "Leaf" (葉) (ha)
• Her full name also comes from the Japanese onomatopoeia of sniffing something while doing heavy breaths, "Hasuhasu".
  • "Hasuhasu", or "hshs", is also Japanese internet slang for someone who is panting a lot from being too horny.
