Kakure Meme (華 (か) 暮 (くれ) 愛 (め) 々 (め) , Kakure Meme^?) is a main character and is Rentarou's 11th girlfriend. She is a 1st year, class 4 student at Ohananomitsu High School, sharing a class with Rentarou, Hakari, Karane, Shizuka, and Nano.

Appearance

Meme has dark hair that reaches her mid-back, along with long straight-cut bangs that completely cover her eyes. She has a mole near her mouth, as well as a similar mole beneath her left ear. She wears a modest turtleneck beneath her school blazer, and dark pantyhose. She also wears a minimizing bra to conceal the size of her chest.

Personality

Meme is extremely shy, to the point of wearing masks to hide her face in order to avoid drawing attention to herself. She strives to keep her face hidden no matter what.

Meme also enjoys knitting and spends time knitting a lot of little stuffed animals.

Instant Disappearance

She uses these stuffed animals for "misdirection", in which she disappears quickly and leaves a stuffed animal as a replacement, so no one sees where she went.

History

Meme first meets Rentarou as he's leaving the school to walk home on a windy day. The wind threatens to blow Meme's bangs out of her face, so she holds them down, and is so focused on doing so that she doesn't protect herself from a stray sign being blown directly towards her. Rentarou pushes her out of the way, but when she falls, her bangs fall away from her face anyway and their eyes meet. They both feel the soulmate shock, but Meme is so flustered by her face being exposed that the two of them get distracted.

Meme explains her shyness and her complex for keeping her face covered. Rentarou tells her that he thinks it's a shame because of how cute she is. Meme becomes embarrassed and disappears, leaving behind a small stuffed animal.

The next day, Rentarou gets a small stuffed Pentarou in his locker, along with a note from Meme thanking him for the day before. When Rentarou tries to approach her, she disappears again. Eventually, he manages to speak to her, and she happens to confess that she likes him, but this just embarrasses her further. She tries to disappear, but eventually Rentarou is able to find her, and assures her that he will always find her, no matter where she hides.

Etymology

• Kakure uses (華)(Ka) meaning "Splendor or Flashiness and (暮)(Kure) meaning "Sunset"
  • Kakure is a homophone for the Japanese word for "to hide", (隠れ)(kakure)
• Meme uses (愛)(Me) meaning "Love or Affection" and the Noma Kanji (々), which repeats the previous Kanji.
  • Me is also a homophone for the Japanese word for 'eye', (目)(me)

Trivia

• Meme has kissed and been kissed by Rentarou at least 6 times as of Chapter 107.
• Meme has been shown to be quite close with Mimimi after she helped Meme avoid journalists in Chapter 55. They are often paired together in subsequent chapters and Mimimi has even kissed her neck in Chapter 77.
• Currently, the only people who have ever seen Meme's eyes are Rentarou and Mimimi after the wind blew her bangs away. Mimimi even notes that her face is exceptionally beautiful and desires to know her beauty tips.
• Despite having a positive and loving relationship, Meme's parents don't even know what her face looks like even as a baby.
• Meme's instant disappearance ability resembles of Body Replacement Technique (変 (か) わり身 (み) の術 (じゅつ) , Kawarimi no jutsu^?), ninja art of Naruto series.
• Meme shares a birthday with Torotoro Kishika on October 10th. This day is known as 'Eye Care Day (目の愛護デー Me no aigo Day)' in Japan (due to the number '10' looking like an eye turned 90°)
