Rin Baio (灰 (ばい) 尾 (お) 凛 (りん) , Baio Rin^?) is Rentarou's 22nd girlfriend. She is a 2nd year student at Ohananomitsu Middle School who plays the violin.

Appearance

Rin has black hair with burgundy highlights, styled in a hime-cut, and blood red eyes. She's also usually drawn with sharp teeth.

School Uniform

Rin wears a modified version of the Ohananomitsu Middle School girl's uniform. Her sleeves are frillier, and she wears a red necktie. She also wears white mid-thigh stockings. Rin completes her look by braiding her hair on either side, and securing them with two white hair ribbons.

Personality

Rin takes pleasure in any affection of violence and gore, which started after watching a scene from a Resident Evil movie as a child. Fearing that she will be judged for this, she mostly keeps this under wraps.

She tends to say "violen-suwa" ("molto violento" in the official translation) when she gets excited/aroused; this is a combination of the word "violence" and "desu-wa".

Musical Knowledge

Rin is a skilled violinist, following in the footsteps of her parents, and is proficient enough to perform solo recitals (with her dearest boyfriend in the audience). She also has a strong sense of rhythm as a result of her regular practice, which she demonstrates while fighting an errant patron with a Nirvana Families (a Sylvanian Families parody) remote control toy.

High Violence Tolerance

Due to being exposed (by accident) to a scene from Resident Evil as a child, Rin became obsessed with bloodshed and gore, and has an especially high threshold for anything related to violence in fiction and reality. Outside of music, Rin also enjoys violent video games - especially the arcade version of Resident Evil.

History

When she was around 8, she turned on the TV in hopes of seeing a Ghibli film in the Friday Road Show block, however the block was instead showing a Resident Evil film, and despite only seeing a few seconds of it, it got recorded inside her mind, and thus, she became affected of violences and gores, with Resident Evil being her favorite series.

She met Rentarou after accidentally bumping into him on the street, and she started to have feelings toward him after talking with him for a while. When Rentarou gets a small scratch after a pebble hits him, she tries to calm the wound by putting a band-aid, however she gets aroused for a second because she likes seeing the wound.

After that, she and Rentarou go to the arcade to hang out, and she blushes because of "violence games" like Whack-A-Croc. customers punching the machines, or boxing arcade games. She later stumbles upon a Biohazard cabinet, and she starts playing it alongside Rentarou, while she fears Rentarou will judge her because of loving the sight of bodies and blood in the game, he says that there's no problem in her enjoying that as long as she doesn't cause problems to other people or hurts them. After those words, she proposes and Rentarou accepts her. The next day, Rentarou introduces Rin to his other girlfriends, officially making her his 22nd girlfriend.

Etymology

• Her full name is a pun on the Japanese pronunciation of the word for "Violin" (バイオリン) (baiorin).
  • Baio is written with the kanji for "gray" (灰) (Hai/Bai), and "tail" (尾) (Bi/O).
    • Baio is also a reference to the Japanese name of the game series Resident Evil, "Biohazard" (バイオハザード, Baiohazādo^?); at the same time part of the word "violence" (バイオレンス)(baiorensu)
  • Rin (凛) means "dignified" - a reference to her upbringing as a high-class young lady.

Trivia

• Rin has kissed and been kissed by Rentarou at least 9 times as of Chapter 181.
• Rin's birthday is on August 10th. This is a Goroawase (wordplay) of her surname, Ba(8) i(1) o(0). Suu used this to remember Rin's name in Chapter 124.
