Saki Tomogara (輩 (ともがら) 先 (さき) , Tomogara Saki^?) is Rentarou's 30th girlfriend. She is a repeated third-year student and self-proclaimed shadow banchou/delinquent boss at Ohananomitsu High School.

Appearance

Saki is a very short girl who dresses like a delinquent. She has long, spiky reddish-pink hair with two shoulder-length bangs and a braid on the front. She also has forked eyebrows and sharp dull pink eyes. She wears a black gakuran cap with an emblem with the word for "high" or "tall" (髙), black gakuran trousers with a white belt, necklace, black half-finger gloves, black camisole that exposes her navel covered with a black robe decorated by cherry blossom motifs on the inside and a jade dragon painting with the words "Throughout heaven and earth, The eldest (Saki) alone is the senior (senpai) one" (天 (てん) 上 (じょう) 天 (てん) 下 (げ) 先 (さき) 我 (が) 先 (せん) 輩 (ぱい) , Tenjō tenge, Saki ga senpai^?) on the back. She wears platform boots to make herself look taller as well.

Personality

Saki is a third-year repeated student who acts as a "shadow" delinquent boss, dressing like one included, even though she has never really done anything to make herself a delinquent and her gang consists only of children who she befriended because they're smaller than her and treat her like their senior. She is the oldest enrolled student since she repeated her third year of school by her own choice, making herself sick on purpose to skip classes, because she enjoys boasting her "seniority" over others as the result of having always been looked down on (literally and figuratively) due to her height.

She takes her role as a senior figure very seriously, even becoming upset when juniors in the Family address her without honorifics or respect. Juniors not showing respect to their seniors ticks Saki off, leading herself to act meek and obedient around anyone who's older than her. She also has next to no strength to speak of, a very low pain tolerance, and a tendency to cry over minor inconveniences. Saki is, however, too prideful to admit any of it.

Physical Strength

Despite her attitude, Saki possesses such physical frailty that when she tried to break up a fight between two elementary school students who were much younger and smaller than she was, Saki ended up being soundly defeated by both of them, accidentally.

Additionally, she is shown to be weaker than Matsuri, and only slightly stronger than Shizuka as she was beaten by the former in an arm wrestling competition, and only barely won against Shizuka, much to her concern.

History

Saki chose to create a delinquent persona, styling herself as the banchou (leader) of Ohananomitsu High School. Her distinctive outfit, which includes a black gakuran coat adorned with cherry blossoms and a jade dragon, became a hallmark of her intimidating image. Despite her tough appearance, she is physically weak, leading her to rely more on the impression of strength than actual combat prowess.

Saki deliberately repeated her third year of high school to remain the "oldest" student, solidifying her status as a senior and delinquent boss.

An incident involving two elementary school children exposed her lack of physical strength, as she was unable to break up their fight. This moment reveals the contrast between her fierce persona and her actual capabilities, highlighting her inner insecurities.

Saki meets Rentarou during one of her delinquent stints. While her delinquent image initially clashes with Rentarou's kind and inclusive nature, he quickly sees through her tough exterior to the vulnerable and caring person underneath. Saki’s pride as a "senior" makes her eager to protect and guide others, even when she lacks the physical strength to do so.

14 years ago, Kusuri became Saki's first ever kouhai without realizing it.

Yaku Yakuzen

Saki is extremely respectful of Yaku due to their large age gap, and because she's by far the oldest in the Family overall.

Matsuri Dei

Saki and Matsuri are very similar, both being prideful, boisterous and hot-tempered shorties. However, they're prone to get into fights because Matsuri doesn't acknowledge Saki as her senpai, instead acting like her usual casual and foul-mouthed self around her, which Saki takes as disrespect.

Chiyu Jiai

During Saki's third year in high school, she became good friends with Chiyu, who gave her a place in her infirmary to recover every time she got sick to help her become a "super senior" the next year. Saki sees Chiyu as her guardian angel, always supporting and encouraging her.

Etymology

• The Kanji for her full name are those used for senpai (先 (せん) 輩 (ぱい) ) but in reversed position, paisen (輩 (ぱい) 先 (せん) ). This is a reference to the casual way to refer to senior.
  • Tomogara in Kun'yomi means "People/Generation" (輩 (ともがら) )
  • Saki means "Previous/Prior" (先 (さき) )

Trivia

• Saki has kissed and been kissed by Rentarou at least 1 time as of Chapter 187.
• The writing on the back of Saki's gakuran robe is a reference to a famous word uttered by the Buddha at the time of his birth, "Throughout heaven and earth, I alone am the honored one" (天 (てん) 上 (じょう) 天 (てん) 下 (げ) 唯 (ゆい) 我 (が) 独 (どく) 尊 (そん) , Tenjō tenge, yuiga dokuson^?).
• Saki's birthday is on the very last second of April 1st. This is because the Japanese school year starts on April 1st, anyone born on April 2nd and after needs to wait one extra year to meet the age requirements for primary school. This means Saki barely qualifies to be put in the school year above everyone born after her in the same year, making her a senior.
