Shiina Usami (宇 (う) 佐 (さ) 美 (み) 椎 (しい) 奈 (な) , Usami Shīna^?) is Rentarou's 28th girlfriend. She is a second year student at Ohananomitsu High School in Class 2-6. She was a suspicious girl that appeared out of nowhere and blended into Rentarou Family in Chapter 168.

Appearance

Shiina is a tall, slender girl with maroon eyes, and neck-length black hair with pink highlights. Parts of her hair are braided into a style that resembles rabbit ears, and secured with black, fluffy hair scrunchies.

School Uniform

Shiina wears the standard Ohananomitsu High School girl's uniform, and accessorizes with a black sweater in the style of jirai-kei. The sweater has large pink stitches down each sleeve, and has two lower pockets with stuffed rabbits in them. Shiina also wears rabbit-themed ear studs.

Personality

Shiina is an overjoyed girl who likes to blend in crowded places. She has autophobia which prevents her from doing solo activities (e.g. eating lunch at school and going to the bathroom by herself), but she just has to hold it in at the short time. She will panic, run away in tears, and want to kill herself if she feels lonely, just like a rabbit.

History

She first appeared on Chapter 168 where the girls are having a snapshot swap party while Rentarou was helping a teacher. She proceeds to compliment everyone and the pictures they took and calling all their names while everyone appeared puzzled about the new girl. When Rentarou finally came to the rooftop, he immediately questions about who she is, and all the current girlfriends felt relieved because they thought they had forgotten someone.

Then, Eira freaked out because of the new girl and Himeka also comments that she lives and breathes abnormally. Shiina then introduced herself and the soulmate shock occurred when she made first eye contact with Rentarou. She explains to everyone about her fear of being lonely and that she sometimes being too clingy to her friends and ended up pushing them away. One day, she came across Rentarou's Family and learned all about them by stalking them day after day. At first, Shiina was astonished about them, but as she kept stalking them, she felt like their love was the most beautiful kind of love in the world and then she asked Rentarou if she could also go out with him and join the family.

Rentarou replied by apologizing first, but before he could finish his reply, Shiina thought he rejected her and gave her a heartbreak. So, she ran away in tears as fast as a rabbit and the two of them are having a chase scene all the way to the train station. They both ended up at Kiraisugi Station where no one exists in the station except the two of them. Shiina felt so lonely and Rentarou hug her and said that he won't let her feel lonely anymore. He then begs her to fall in love with him because if her only reason to date him is to "join his family", then he has no right to date her. However, Shiina already fall in love with him through his actions and give him a kiss. The two of them got back to the school rooftop and she is officially become a member of the family.

Etymology

Her full name is also a homophone pun of "Ugh, I'm so lonely." (うう淋 (さみ) しいな, Ū samishī na^?), which describes her personality.

• Usami means "Roof"(宇)(u), "Aid"(佐)(sa), and "Beauty"(美)(bi/mi).
  • Usami is also an abbreviation of Usagi no Mimi(ウサギの耳) meaning bunny ears.
• Shiina means "Castanopsis" (椎)(shii), and "Apple tree" (奈)(na).

Trivia

• Shiina has kissed and been kissed by Rentarou at least 5 times as of Chapter 180.
• Shiina shares a birthday with Nozawa-sensei on April 17th. This spells out her name using Goroawase, Shi(4)i(1)na(7).
• She is the second tallest girlfriend of the entire family, beaten out only by Yamame right behind her.
• Usami's character and introduction may be in reference to the titular character from the 1945 play (and 1950 movie) "Harvey" about an imaginary creature that is seen by the lead character as a "6ft. 3-and-one-half inch rabbit".
