—Yamame Yasashiki at Chapter 64 | ||
Yamame Yasashiki (
Appearance[]
Yamame is a very tall girl with a large frame. She has short green hair in a bob-cut, which is usually adorned with real flowers, and butterflies which feed on the nectar within them.
Uniform[]
Yamame wears the short-sleeved version of the Ohananomitsu High School girl's uniform. She also wears brown hiking/work boots, and a necktie (which she usually tucks into her breast pocket).[3]
When working in the fields, she uses stilts to avoid crushing the plants and bugs (or any living thing, for that matter). She also wears a blue apron, and a wooden frame backpack for carrying gardening supplies such as fertilizer.
Personality[]
Yamame is a very kind and gentle girl who speaks with a country accent and end her sentences with "-do" ("aye" in the official translation). She is self-conscious about her height but is proud that she can protect others with it. She has pyrophobia[4], after witnessing a forest fire and its destruction of plants and animals alike.[3]
Abilities[]
Physical Strength[]
Due to her large build, Yamame is very strong, being able to carry Shizuka, Kusuri (child-form), and Chiyo all at once and lift a boulder.
Gardenwork[]
Yamame is able to do all forms of gardenwork to take care of her crops.
Animal Whisperer[]
Yamame can talk to animals.
Stilt Walking[]
Due to her own fears of stepping on something small after a childhood experience where she squashed a bug accidentally, Yamame tends to walk on stilts when doing gardenwork to avoid her large feet from crushing anything small.
History[]
Yamame has always had a large body, which led to her being teased by others growing up. She became self-conscious of her height and hated herself for it. One day, she helped a baby chick return to its nest and protected a small flower from a downpour of rain. Realizing that her large body gave her the power to protect others, she became proud of herself for the first time in her life. Her appreciation towards nature led her to being part of the gardening club in high school.[3]
When Yamame was young, she stepped on a bug while playing in the field with her father. This led her to become afraid of going outside as it might happen again. Yamame’s father decided to hypnotize her into seeing him as a giant version of the bug that she stepped on and taught her how to use stilts to avoid such situations.
In the gardening club, Yamame grew vegetables with the help of the gardening club advisor, Momoha Bonnouji, and also gave excess vegetables to said advisor to eat.[5]
Yamame meets Rentarou when he comes to the gardening club asking for flowers to make a crown for his girlfriend. She accepts, under the condition that Rentarou helps her in the fields for the day. Seeing how hard of a worker Rentarou is, she is touched by his mutual appreciation of nature. Just before she gives Rentarou the flowers, the vice principal comes running through the fields with her hair on fire. Some sparks fly off of her and head toward Yamame, but Rentarou protects her from them. She is amazed, as she's only protected others before, but never been protected herself. She confesses to Rentarou after this and is brought into the family.[3]
